The election was a while ago and I had hoped that calmer heads would prevail. Sadly, that has happened.
I am still worried and feeling insecure. Will my insurance be changed and caps/limits be imposed which can cause me to be die?
Yesterday, the Senate voted to repeal the ACA- the thing that had saved my life.
While I currently I have insurance via a municipality- until the ACA it had a limit attached to it.
I worry for my kids. I worry for people who have been marginalized- who very well may be facing further marginalization.
What now? What next? I will fight for the rights of those people who are facing marginalization.
I will speak up when I see in justice. I raise my children to speak out against injustice. I will raise my children to call out racism and hate.
Hate has no home here. My house, my home is a place for inclusion. It is a place for love. Never hate.

Well--- sometimes no news is good news, sometimes no news is just busy, and sometimes, no news means my kidney is up to trickery and I am having hard time accepting it.
I got sick in June. Like I do, I wished it away, figured that it was stress and it would get better. I went to the doctor after a few days and he gave me antibiotics and all was well. A few days later, I couldn't keep anything down. Even the Zofran for nausea. So went to the ER. After waiting a year and a day the doc took one look at me and admitted me. She seriously didn't even run labs first.
7 days. 7 days on IV antibiotics to kick this infection.
Home for a few days.
Then sick again.
This time with scary bacteria. My kidney does a go big or go home thing apparently-- and it goes big.
So now I am on antibiotics-- they make me very very tired and have some other fun side effects. Also learned today that I will need to investigate some funky stuff on my ovaries further.
But........
I am ok. My kids are great, having a wonderful summer. B is wonderful. life is beautiful
Right now, I can be awake for about 2 hours before I need to sleep again, so I will write more when I have more energy.

No, I don't dance for anyone
Tuesday, March 10, 2015
No one aside from my pole sisters have ever seen me pole dance.
Pole dancing has been thought of as a sexual act for so long, and it is. Really, pole rose to prominence in the US because of exotic dancers (aka strippers). Without them, pole would not be. Pole can also be sensual, athletic, modern, or lyrical etc- it is an art, a sport, a career- it is whatever the individual doing it wants it to be.
For me though- pole helps me get in touch with my feelings, it helps me get in touch with my (please do not laugh too hard) sexy side.
So why do I want to get in touch with my sexy side if I am not going to let someone see? I do not believe that as a woman, as a pole dancer I need to be of sexual service to men unless I want to. There is no obligation inherent in being a pole dancer (for fitness or any other purpose).
A lot of people say something along the lines of "your husband must be happy" or "I bet he loves to watch you practice".
I do not pole for anyone but myself.
When I say something along the lines of "Well no one else has seen me dance" most often I am met with a response in the vein of "Then what's the point?" Which is to say: what is the point of being and feeling sexy if someone else is not going to benefit from it?
I want to feel connected to my femininity, my sexuality, my sensual side for me. Not for the benefit of someone else.

Bleeding Heart Liberals
Thursday, September 11, 2014
We live in a very conservative Christian town. Ostensibly this would mean that there is a huge charity focus, residents would be non-judgmental, kind, and accepting.
And I was called a bleeding heart liberal- because of my political leanings.
I prefer compassionate.
I do not like seeing people have to choose between medical care and food- I strongly oppose that.
The environment needs to be protected- we only have one planet- we need to treasure it and care for it.
I do not like seeing oppressed people further oppressed. I will stand with anyone who tries to stop it.
I do not like seeing people victimized. I will stand with any one to try and stop it.
My beliefs and morals are mine... and they guide my behavior and choices- but I may not impose them on anyone else. Our government was founded on the principle of religious freedom (freedom of religion and from religion).
Maybe I am a bleeding heart liberal. I hope I can raise my kids to be compassionate bleeding heart liberals too.

She really is just a kid
Sunday, August 3, 2014
The kids have had to learn a lot of hard lessons about life since I was sick.
They have had to learn that sometimes even mothers get sick. That sometimes as much as we want them too things just don't go as planned. This summer has been great as I have not been sick much at all and have had lots of time to spend playing with kids and enjoying the summer.
A lot of times they are incredibly mature. They are compassionate and empathetic to everyone. Which, sometimes leads me to forget that they really are just little kids.
Then they do something that just reminds me that they really are just kids. Most recently, this was the ice cream truck.
All of their maturity in the world goes right out the window the second they hear the ice cream truck.
The fun of childhood is pretty great.

I am running out of spare parts
Wednesday, June 18, 2014
I do not have: wisdom teeth, appendix, and one kidney.
Soon I will also lack a gall bladder. Apparently it has been acting up for a while and I just started to tune into the issues since I was no longer in pain from an obnoxious kidney.
I have to schedule its execution date at some point and I really really am not looking forward to it. I hoped to be done with surgeries.
In talking with my surgeon I joked that I am running out of removable parts- soon I'll be down to the bare minimum for functioning. He laughed and said he and his colleagues had a bet going to see who could remove the most parts from a person and still have a functional life. I rolled my eyes so hard.

Don't tell me to calm down
Wednesday, May 7, 2014
I have anxiety. At times it can feel crippling. Having someone tell me to calm down is like pouring gasoline on a fire: it does no good- and actually makes it worse. If 'calming down' was that easy don't you think I'd do it?? Would you tell someone having a heart attack to just stop? No? (I certainly hope not, at least.) Then don't tell me to calm down.
Its insulting to be told that- as if I had some choice in the matter. Anxiety is not something that I can schedule. It just is.
Another thing not to do-- for the love of all that is holy- do not try and surprise or scar me. I may surprise you by hitting you.

Please stop saying "I Can't"
Friday, December 27, 2013
I am not a closet pole dancer. I am very open about it. When I tell some one new what I do, quite often he or she will say, "I can't (or couldn't) do that" to be followed up with one of the following: I am not sexy, I am not coordinated, I am not strong enough, I am not flexible, I am not that kind of person, I am not etc....
Here's the deal: ANYONE can pole dance. It doesn't have to be sexy. You don't have to be strong (that is why you pole dance- to get stronger). You don't have to be flexible (if you choose to work on it- this will change). You don't have to have incredible confidence, pole dancing can help with that (I swear).
Pole dancing can be whatever you want it to be sexy or athletic, full of tricks or not. Its about YOU. No one else. When I have done a routine with my classes- even though we are doing the same tricks in the same order to the same music each woman looks totally unique. That is awesome. No one else can dance like you- because no one else is you.
Stop saying "I can't". You can. If you don't want to or tried it and didn't like it-- that's fine. But you can pole dance- everyone can.

5 reasons to give blood
Wednesday, August 1, 2012
Please Please Please give blood.
I have spent the past few days receiving blood. My kidney stent was causing me to loose a lot of blood that put me in a dangerous situation. Thanks to some generous people quite literally giving themselves, I am okay.
1. You don't have to die. Almost everyone I talk to is an Organ Donor, and you have to actually die (usually) to give your organs, blood... all you need is a few hours. However, not many people give blood.
2. It is almost painless, one needle stick. Just one.
3. You get some yummy treats- after you give blood you get to have some great treats- and a good excuse to indulge.
4. You will be a hero. Literally. Blood donors save lives.
5. It is one way to give that doesn't cost a thing.
For obvious reasons I can't give blood right now. But I will again as soon as am I am able. Please give blood, you never know when you- or a loved one will need it. I certainly did not expect to need blood this week, but I did. I am so thankful it was available for me.
